Written for Scam Artist Piece #2

Here is the second in my series of articles that were stolen by a scam artist. This one strikes very close to home since my eldest nephew battles severe grand-maul epileptic seizures, and my mother has been battling stage 4 breast cancer for 4 years this round, as well as Alzheimer Disease is part of my family history on my fathers side.

More than Weight Loss; the Benefits of a Ketogenic Diet

In recent years the negative side effects of a carb free diet have definitely been brought to the forefront. However, that doesn’t mean that eating a low carb diet is bad for you. On the contrary scientists have found that the Ketogenic Diet created in 1924 by Mayo Clinic Dr. Russell Wilder to aid in treating epilepsy has more health and disease fighting benefits keto-dietthan originally thought.

What is a Ketogenic Diet?

A Keto Diet is not a no-carb diet. It is a LOW carb diet that provides minimal amounts of carbohydrates that the body may need, but minimizes the amount of glucose and insulin being produced by the body as it stores excess carbs. With this type of diet your body’s energy is being derived from ketones that the liver naturally produces instead of glucose.

Why the West has Gotten so Fat/Unhealthy

The U.S. obesity rate has skyrocketed in the past decade largely as a result of all of the processed foods that they eat that contain high amounts of sugars, carbohydrates and few or unhealthy fats. These increased obesity numbers are responsible for increased medical costs due to more people with Type II Diabetes, heart problems, and breathing disorders. All of these obesity caused illnesses can be reduced and in some cases even reversed simply by changing the way Americans eat to reduce the amount of sugar, carbohydrates, keto-diet-2and processed foods.

Keto Diets Proven to Fight Disease

Although the original Ketogenic diet that Dr. Wilder developed in 1924 has fallen out of favor, the researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical Center have reintroduced the keto diet and proven with statistical analysis that a keto diet does in fact improve epilepsy symptoms and reduces the number of seizures among those who have epilepsy.

In addition to epilepsy researchers have discovered that a keto diet can also fight cancer. Yes, cancer. Cancer cells feed on sugar and by transitioning from a glucose energy source to a ketone generate energy source you in a sense starve the cancer cells killing them off. Since the healthy cells in the body can metabolize fat turning it into energy and cancer cells cannot, reducing your sugar intake does not affect healthy cells negatively, and does fight cancer.

Alzheimer’s disease is another illness that has been shown to improve symptoms and in some cases cured the symptoms altogether. It is believed that by transitioning to healthy fats and minimizing the amount of sugars and carbs taken in you improve brain function. This is because the body needs a diet that contains around 70% of its makeup to be healthy fats. The key word here is healthy. That does not mean all fats are created equal.

Keto Diet and Healthy Fats

When transitioning to a keto diet, it is important to also transition your fat intake to healthier options such as coconut oil, olive oil, fish oils and grape seed oil. The make-up of these healthy fats are much easier for the body to metabolize and leave less unhealthy waste products in the system for the body to flush out.

Written for Scam Artist Piece

Here is the first of my previously talked about articles that were stolen by a scam artist. I will be posting them in reverse order of when they were written in hopes of exposing this person earlier rather than later. This fraud even had the gaul to ask for an additional 30 words to be added even though I met the original word count.

Traverse City Michigan; Rich with Scenery Surrounded with History

The abundant history of Traverse City Michigan extends long before it was officially traverse-city-2christened into a town in 1852 and has continued well past that date making it one of the country’s most beautiful historic cities for visitors and locals alike.

The Early Beginnings

Long before there were settlers or cities in this region fur traders, hunters, trackers, and Native American Indians used to travel through these scenic lands. The lush lands and massive waterways provided excellent terrain for their fishing, hunting, and trapping needs. The dense forestry provided them with temporary shelter as they gathered their provisions, but the seclusion kept them from settling in this region.

In 1839 was when the first settlement came to the area making its home on the Old Mission Peninsula, but it wouldn’t be for another eight years, until 1847, that anyone would begin a community along the neighboring Boardman River. It was this community that was finally declared to be Traverse City, Michigan five years after that in 1852.

Although Traverse City, Michigan was technically a town, it was really an outpost that was only accessible by water until 1864, when the first road was cut through the surrounding forests connecting it to the outside world.

Expansion Continues

After the main road was finally built creating more access to Traverse City in 1864, the town continued to grow as it became a regular steamer connection with Chicago in 1871 and then on November 15, 1872 became connected by railroad to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Indiana.

The 1800’s were a great time of expansion as the first Ladies Library was established, an official Courthouse replaced the old log jailhouse, they built a fire station, and in the late 1800’s even became home to the Northern Michigan Asylum for the Insane, and the first City Opera house.

The 1900’s brings with it the Modern Age

Expansion into the modern age and the self-proclaimed title of “Cherry Capitol of the world” were what the 1900’s brought to Traverse City, Michigan. The first Cherry Blossom Festival took place on May 22, in 1925 and it still continues today; drawing in more than 500,000 tourists to this event that was originally a partnership between local businessmen and the cherry farmers in order to spark commerce in the region.

traverse-city-miAs the commerce grew and the population increased so did social entertainment venues such as the first zoo in 1934. City improvements such as sewer systems, traffic lights, and the first Ford dealership, and gas station were built, turning this once tiny out post into a full fledged city.

Traverse City Now

You can still see the historic past within the architecture and atmosphere when traveling to Traverse City, Michigan. They have stayed connected to their past and true to their heritage by preserving the historic buildings that their city was built with. Their small town roots permeate this now big metropolis with little bits and pieces of historic artifacts scattered throughout the city; proudly remembering all of those who built this beautiful town with their blood, sweat, and tears through more than one hundred and fifty years of expansion and progress to become the city it is today.

Beware the Scorned Writer

scam-alertThis message is intended for anyone out there who thinks it is alright to steal a writer’s hard work and claim it for their own, especially within the ghost writing community; as well as any potential upstart writers who might fall victim to this ever rampant scam within the writing community.

Recently I spent an entire week working as a ghost writer with the agreement that I would be paid for my work, only to have the agreed upon pay day come and go without receiving payment. I have repeatedly contacted this individual requesting the money owed only to be completely ignored. Now this isn’t the first time I have come across a scam artist like this. But, in the past it became quite obvious early on what was happening and I nipped it in the bud, before it got too far. This time however, the debt ran up to $365.

You may be wondering why I let it get this far. The plain and simple truth is I did not listen to my instincts. Because this individual and I had the agreement that I would be paid weekly on Wednesdays through PayPal, I continued working throughout the week and then submitted my agreed upon invoice. I waited 24 hours to see if payment would be made, and then when it was not I contacted the client directly informing them that working for them would be put on hold until payment was made. Here we are a week later an nothing, no payment, no response, nothing. So what can be done when working scam-alert-2through the internet to guaranty that payment is made? Here are a few things that I intend to do in the future and will be doing in this case.

  1. Work only through reputable job boards – There are a handful of quality job boards out there who pay on time and verify the clients before they allow them to place a job. Avoid sites that do not do this. Upwork.com claims to do this, but beware they only protect hourly jobs and yet post more flat rate projects than hourly it seems.  Zerys does a good job of getting you paid, but the job postings are very low pay.
  2. Set-up an escrow account for Direct Clients – When working directly with a client for the first time or on a large dollar project, either ask for half down up front, or if doing payment on delivery have them establish a verified escrow account via Paypal or another such site. If they ask to pay you weekly, have them provide proof that you will be paid, by making the first few assignments be paid upon receipt. This way you have some indication that this client is ethical and does intend to pay you for your work.
  3. If you fall victim to one of these scam artists – Report them to all of the job boards that you work through, and then post the work so that when the thief tries to post it, it will not pass Copyscape. Document the work so that it shows the day it was written, who wrote it, and possibly whom did not pay for the work. (You don’t want to get into an issue over slander, so stay as accurate to the facts as possible.) The client does not own the work in order to sell it, until they have paid you.
  4. Report them to the media – Although you may not get anything except satisfaction out of this option, at least it has been passed on to an organization who might be able to track this person down and expose them for the frauds that they are.
  5. Report them to Better Business Bureau and collections– This can be difficult if you don’t have much to go on, however if you do have contact information and a legitimate name this is a good avenue.

In my case I have two aliases and an email address which makes it difficult to pursue payment through collections. But, since I do work through several job boards I have recognized the format that he has been sending his job descriptions to me in as one of the job boards I work through on occasion and have reported him to them as well as several other sites; and I will be posting one of the articles that I wrote for this client everyday, until I either receive payment, or have posted all of them.

It is my hope that this article and rant will help any new writers out there to beware these unscrupulous thieves who feel it is alright to scam others out of their hard work, talents, and time; as well as possibly make it known to those who might consider scamming others, that it is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. In my case this is my livelihood that is being messed with, and I will stand up for myself one way or another, as I know the writing community will stand together in exposing these unethical frauds.
